Malama LLC is a West coast company founded to provide transportation alternatives to those looking for a fun, green, healthy, and inexpensive way to avoid some automobile trips. The California central coast is an appropriate place to foster this emerging technology. And this is an especially important opportunity to be gentle on the environment, save gas dollars, and improve health – all while having fun.
Our company was founded with the goal to provide some help in soving some of the compound problems associated with the relative inefficient use of automobiles in America. We love our cars, but sometimes we would like to have other choices to get from point A to point B. Many major cities have laudable mass transit systems, and many others are built to accommodate pedestrian and non-motorized traffic. Unfortunately, the vast majority of U.S. urban areas have become dependent on roadways and inefficient motor travel - most often burning precious fossil fuels. Electric vehicles promise some partial solutions, and we are looking to leverage the early success of electric (hybrid) vehicles. Electric cars are an exciting, somehwat distant promise, and perhaps Lightweight Electric Vehicles will serve some needs. However, we could not easily define a market for LEVs, with the restrictions of our road system and laws. Electric bicycles on the other hand are common in other parts of the world, and can be adopted in a significant way right now for so many of our transportation needs. We recognize that electric-assisted bicycles can contribute to solving some of our tough problems in our prosperous society, and we offer our own hybrid manual/electrical personal transportation option designated the e-ped.
Malama electric bicycles are manufactured in an ISO9001:2000 facility, using certified parts with comprehensive quality assurance procedures. Models are engineered for reliability and utility, using efficient and proven technology. We are constantly examining advances in the state-of-the-art, and introduce new features and products as they are perfected.
Our current designs include a low-cost utility bike using Sealed Lead-Acid batteries, and a cruiser and folding Aluminum alloy models with Lithium-Ion battery packs. Products are available at selected bicycle dealers and rentals, and on this website.
